December 25, 1997 a Christmas Card from my daughter Alicia which reads: "Merry Christmas, Dad! I just wanted to tell you how happy I am to be in Baltimore, close to the best Dad in the Whole wide world. I appreciate all of the support you lend to me and Shannon. It's so nice to spend time with you and laugh -- your positive attitude always makes you a joy to be around. We should have a great time on our vacation to KC. I'm looking forward to it and I'm glad you'll be there. I'm glad you are my Dad. Thanks for being you!. I love you. Alicia."

December, 1994. An email from my daughter Margo which reads: "Dad, I got your message--thanks. I had such a great time while you were here. You are the most wonderful father ever! I really appreciate getting to know you better as I get older. I enjoyed the story about your "crucial" decision to trek to France on your own. I like to hear "motivational" stories such as those. I really admire your drive and intelligence and it means a lot to me how much you love me. I try to emulate you by learning as much as I possibly can about life and politics. I feel extremely fortunate to have you as my father--thanks. I love you.
P.S. I am feeling specially sentimental since you were just here."
