Thank You Friends and Supporters
As many of you know, on June 21, 2002, the Court of Appeals redrew Maryland's legislative map. The new map altered the configuration of the 46th :Legislative District.

The changed map placed me in a district with an old friend, colleague and mentor, Senator George Della. Senator Della was instrumental in my election to the Baltimore City Council in September 1991. I have never forgotten the role he played in my first campaign.

Eleven years later, I find myself in a potential political race with an old ally and more importantly, a good friend. In a recent conversation with George, he expressed his desire to continue serving in the State Legislature.

Knowing of his interest and given the respect and support he has afforded me over the years, I feel it is appropriate to act in a way thet is honorable and respectful. Therefore, I have decided to step aside in this election, so that Senator Della may continue to serve the people of the newly configured 46th Legislative District.

I feel comfortable with this decision because we share similar commitments as progressives on social issues, the environment, and the revitalization of our neighborhoods. This decision has not been easy for me, as I have strong affinity for the people of the 46th Legislative District. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with many fine people who, not only enriched my life, but also the lives of the communities in which we all live.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the individuals, businesses, and neighborhood coalitions who have worked with me to enhance the lives of all city residents. I promised at my campaign kickoff in 1991 that I would work to make life better for the communities I represent. I think together we have fulfilled that promise.

May God bless you and may God bless our America
