Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF)/Univision-
Communications Scholarship
With a generous grant from the Univision
Television Group, Inc., MALDEF is able to
promote the advancement of Latinos in
the field of communications. The Latino
community has long been severely underrepresented
in the field of communications.
Consequently, media images of
Latinos are often negative and stereotypical,
and their contributions to American
society remain virtually invisible. For these
reasons, Univision, the nation’s largest
Spanish-language television company, has
joined with MALDEF to create a scholarship
that will enable Latinos to pursue careers
in this important field.
Communications scholarships are awarded
to students pursuing a graduate or professional
degree in the field of communications,
including print and broadcast
journalism, or electronic communications.
Scholarships range from $2,000 to $6,000.
