 Carpets
of AndalusiaMarch 8 - August 10, 2003 Spain under Muslim rule was called Al-Andalus, or Andalusia. Carpets woven in Spain during the 15th and 16th century comprise one of the oldest preserved groups of carpets in the world, of which The Textile Museum has one of the largest and finest collections. The exhibition explores the diverse cultural influences that had an impact on the designs of these extraordinary carpets, which were woven during the final century of Islamic rule and after the Christian reconquest of Spain. The designs and patterns are drawn from Roman, Islamic, Christian, Visigothic and indigenous Iberian traditions. The Textile Museum y Jaleo son los copatrocinadores de la exposición

GALA Teatro Hispano recibe tres nominaciones al premio Helen Hayes 2003, según fue anunciado por la Liga de Teatros de Washington anoche, en una recepción auspiciada por la Embajada de Canadá. Los nominados son: Mejor Actriz de reparto en una producción local: Menchu Esteban (La verdad sospechosa de Juan Ruiz de Alarcón, dirigida por Hugo Medrano) Mejor Actriz de reparto en un musical local: la actriz y cantante Mariani Ebert (Brasil: as Coisas do Samba, concebida por Hugo Medrano y Sandra Louzada) Mejor Diseño de Vestuario en una producción local: Alessandra D’Ovidio y Mariana Fernández (La verdad sospechosa) Este premio Helen Hayes destaca la creatividad y el talento del teatro profesional en Washington, la segunda comunidad más grande de teatro dentro de los Estados Unidos (después de Nueva York). GALA Hispanic Theatre received three Helen Hayes nominations for its productions in 2002 – two up from last year! Nominees for this prestigious award, sponsored by the League of Washington Theatres (LOWT) were announced last night during a reception at the Canadian Embassy. GALA received nods in the following categories: Best Supporting Actress in a Resident Production: Menchu Esteban (La verdad sospechosa) Best Supporting Actress in a Resident Musical: Mariani Ebert (Brasil: as Coisas do Samba) Best Costume Design in a Resident Production: Alessandra D’Ovidio and Mariana Fernández (La verdad sospechosa) This award, offered to members of the League of Washington Theatres, honors the talent and creativity of professional theater artists in the Washington area, the second largest theater community in the country (second to New York, of course). The 2003 Helen Hayes Awards will be announced at a Gala reception held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts this coming May.
