GRANTS
As one of the largest sources of funding in the
world exclusively for graduate women, the American Association of
University Women (AAUW) Educational Foundation supports aspiring
scholars around the globe, teachers and activists in local communities,
women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions
where women are underrepresented. In 2003-04 distributed more than
$3.4 million in fellowships, grants, and awards.
American Fellowships support women doctoral candidates
completing dissertations and scholars seeking funds for postdoctoral
research leave or for preparing completed research for publication.
Applicants must be U.S citizens or permanent residents. One-year
postdoctoral research leave fellowships, dissertation fellowships,
and summer/short-term research publication grants are offered. (Deadline:
November 15, 2003)
Career Development Grants support women who hold
a bachelor's degree and who are preparing to advance their careers,
change careers, or re-enter the work force. (Deadline: December
15, 2003)Community Action Grants provide seed money to individual
women; AAUW branches and AAUW state organizations, as well as local
community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs
or nondegree research projects that promote education and equity
for women and girls. (Deadline: December 15, 2003)
Eleanor Roosevelt Teacher Fellowships provide
professional development opportunities for women public school teachers;
improve girls' learning opportunities, especially in math, science,
and technology; and promote equity and long-term change in classrooms,
schools, and school systems. (Deadline: January 10, 2004)
International Fellowships are awarded for full-time
graduate or postgraduate study or research to women who are not
U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Supplemental grants support
community-based projects in the fellow's home country. (Deadline:
December 15, 2003)Selected Professions Fellowships are awarded to
women who are U.S. citizens
or permanent residents and who intend to pursue a full-time course
of study (during the fellowship year) in designated degree programs
where women's participation traditionally has been low. (Deadlines:
November 15, 2003 and January 10, 2004)
University Scholar-in-Residence, located at a
college or university, undertakes and disseminates research on gender
and equity for women and girls. (Deadline: October 15, 2003)
AAUW Recognition Award for Emerging Scholars,
awarded annually be the AAUW Educational Foundation, recognizes
the early professional achievements of an untenured woman scholar
who has a record of exceptional early accomplishments and shows
promise of future distinction. (Deadline: February 10, 2004)
Founders Distinguished Senior Scholar Award, given
annually by the AAUW Educational Foundation, honors a tenured woman
scholar for a lifetime of outstanding research, teaching, publications,
and impact on women in her profession and community. (Deadline:
February 10, 2004)
AAUW Achievement Award, the highest award bestowed
by the AAUW Educational Foundation, biennially honors a woman of
outstanding achievement. (Deadline: February 15, 2004)
Annie Jump Cannon Award in Astronomy, given annually
by the AAUW Educational Foundation in conjunction with the American
Astronomical Society, honors an untenured woman astronomer pursuing
significant postdoctoral research in
stronomy. (Deadline: February 10, 2004)

cultivates a community amongformer fellows, grantees, and awardees.
It provides its members with opportunities for involvement,professional
networking venues, and information about Foundation news,programs,
and other AAUW initiatives.
