Dto. Prensa Internacional / International Press Request for clarification of discriminatory declarations by U.S. State Department Employee. The civil employee of the State Department Christopher Sibilla, in Madrid Spain, during a teaching conference on lessons of the Spanish transition from dictatorship to democracy for Latin America, made declarations to the agency EFE about the "secondary role" that the exile must have in future political change of the island. By the way, the civil employee mentioned resigns the possibility of political changes in Cuba to the era post-mortem of the dictator Castro, of whom in his declarations he simply calls, as his official cronies refer to him, "Fidel". In these declarations he openly contradicts the string of foreign policy of the United States towards Cuba, and ruins the work conducted by the administration of President George W. Bush. He adheres (we hope by error or lack of criterion) to such an absurd line, as discredited by facts in plain sight. For a long time diverse interests have been trying to create the false image of the exile describing it as disconnected from the island, nostalgic and impractical that only dreams about the past. In other words "rusos blancos. " It is as false an image as it is malicious. The Cuban exile does not present any gaps in time; it is not generational because it has been nourished almost daily for 45 years. It is not classicist because it includes people of all the social groups. You must know Mr. Christopher Sibilla, that the problems of the Cubans will be resolved by the Cubans, that we do not accept any type of classification dividing us between Cubans here or there. Simply, because many of us here were jailed there until recently. And that fact Mr. Sibilla should not be unknown to you, nor is it for you to "expropriate" nationality and civil rights of the Cubans regardless of place of residence. For arbitrary confiscations and ideological disqualifications, it is enough with Castro's. We know that there exist large interest groups created that, behind the scenes, are gaining strength dedicating themselves to dividing the Cubans and with it, weaken and disqualify the true history of our people. A unique and indivisible people, a people with a single ideal of freedom and democracy that has not managed to reach its ideals, but that fights restlessly every day to obtain it. The proof is the tens of thousand of dead, missing and political prisoners throughout our history and especially in these last forty-five years. The Cuban exile does not rest softly on its economic and social successes. On the contrary, many honorable and determined, protest with loud voices for our brothers who lack voice or aid in the largest island jail in the world. By all this, we ask the office of the President of the United States, and the ranking members of the State Department to publicly clarify what is the official position of the Government of the U.S.A. towards the foreign policy of this administration with respect to the future of Cuba. El funcionario del Departamento de Estado Christopher Sibilla, durante el receso de una conferencia sobre las lecciones de la transición española de la dictadura a la democracia para América Latina, celebradas en Madrid, España, realizó declaraciones a la agencia EFE acerca del “rol secundario” que deberían tener los exiliados en el futuro cambio político de la isla. Dicho sea de paso, el mencionado funcionario resigna la posibilidad de cambios políticos en Cuba a la era post-mortem del dictador Castro, a quien en sus declaraciones llama, tal como indica el régimen a sus cronistas oficiales, sencillamente “Fidel”. En dichas declaraciones contradice abiertamente la línea de la política exterior de los Estados Unidos hacia Cuba, y da al traste con el trabajo efectuado por la administración del Sr. Presidente George W. Bush. Se adhiere así (esperemos que por error o falta de criterio) a una línea tan absurda, como desacreditada por hechos que saltan a la vista. Hace tiempo que diversos intereses intentan crear la imagen falsa de un exilio que describen como desconectado de la isla, nostálgico e impráctico que sólo sueña con el pasado, en otra palabra 'rusos blancos'. Es una imagen tan falsa como maliciosa. El exilio cubano no presenta cortes tajantes en el tiempo, no es generacional porque se ha nutrido casi a diario por 45 años. No es clasista porque incluye a personas de todos los grupos sociales. Debe saber el señor Christopher Sibilla, que los problemas de los cubanos serán resueltos por los cubanos, que no aceptamos ningún tipo de clasificación entre nosotros dividiéndonos entre cubanos de allá o de acá. Sencillamente, porque muchos de los de acá estuvieron en las cárceles de allá hasta hace bien poco. Y ese hecho el Sr. Sibilla no debería desconocerlo, ni es quién para dedicarse a 'expropiar' la nacionalidad y los derechos civiles de los cubanos sin importar su lugar de residencia. Para confiscaciones arbitrarias y descalificaciones ideológicas, bastan las de Castro. Sabemos que existen grandes intereses creados que, tras bambalinas, se esfuerzan a fin en crear la división de los cubanos y con ello desvirtuar y descalificar la verdadera historia de nuestro pueblo. Un pueblo único e indivisible, un pueblo con un solo ideal de libertad y democracia que no ha logrado alcanzar sus ideales, pero que lucha cada día sin descanso por conseguirlo. Prueba contundente son las decenas de miles de muertos, desaparecidos y de presos políticos a lo largo de nuestra historia y en especial en estos últimos cuarenta y cinco años. El exilio cubano no descansa muellemente en sus éxitos económicos y sociales. Por el contrario, honorable e intransigente, reclama a voz tonante por nuestros hermanos que carecen de voz o ayuda en la mayor isla cárcel del mundo. Por todo esto, le solicitamos a la oficina del Señor Presidente de los Estados Unidos, y a los funcionarios del Departamento de Estado que aclaren públicamente cuál es la posición oficial del Gobierno de los EE.UU. acerca de la política exterior de esta administración respecto al futuro de Cuba.
