Hispanic-Jewish Dialogue Committee |
On March 29, 2006 the Hispanic-Jewish Dialogue Committee, a joint venture of the Baltimore Hispanic Roundtable and the Baltimore Jewish Council, celebrated a symposium on Immigration. More than 60 attendees listened attentively to the excellent presentations of Flavia Jiménez of the National Council of La Raza, Juan Carlos Ruiz of the National Capital Immigration Coalition and Gilberto de Jesús, Vice Chairman of the Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce who made imppassioned defense of the rights of undocumented immigrants. Javier Bustamante, Chairman of the Baltimore Hispanic Roundtable, Ilana Soubar of the Jewish Council and Richard Cahn, also of the Council, made the presentations and completed the panel.
Among the throng of attendees were Delegate Peter Franchot candidate to Maryland State Comptroller, Judge Robert Cahill of the Baltimore County Circuit Cout, City Council persons Ricky Spector and Jim Kraft, and Wanda Watts representing City Council President Sheila Dixon. Art Abramson, Debbie Kaplan, and Ericka Hobby of the Jewish Council were instrumental in the success of the event as was Rafael Regales, Hispanic Liaison of the Mayor's Office of Hispanic Affairs.
