Broadway
Expansion and Street Scape
On July 31st., the Department of Transportation presented
the final city plans for the expansion and beautification
of the Broadway area between Fleet Street and Baltimore Street,
to the Fells Point Task Force. The reaction was extremely
favorable. The head-on parking on both sides of the boulevard
will become paralell parking but because the plan is to expand
the median, having
indents on both sides to accomodate parking, the end result
is an addition of 35 parking spots on the six blocs of Broadway
between Fleet and Baltimore Stret. In addition, the use of
period
lighting, strong, attractive, durable street furniture
and extremely
attractive brick sidewalks and trimming will make the
overall beautification of Broadway a truly innovative improvement.
Spanish
Plaza
One of the main concepts of Spanish Town is to develop a destination;
a "town" where people will like to live, visit,
work and play. To that effect the central part of Spanish
Town will be a Plaza, the central part of life in many cities
and villages throughout the Spanish speaking world. The idea,
as depicted in the picture below, is a central plaza, with
a central fountain surrounded by small specialty shops and
an upscale restaurante with an outdoor cafe. The developers
of Spanish Town are discussing with several potential sites
to develop this beautiful plaza.
