The City Council has approved a resolution urging support for
bilingualism in the nation's ninth-largest city, which is mostly
Hispanic.
While many U.S. border cities have turned a deaf ear to needs of
a growing Spanish-speaking population, Mayor Bill Thornton said
he sees an opportunity to boost trade with San Antonio's southern
neighbor by promoting bilingualism.
"Our goal is that San Antonio become a place for international
trade," he said.
