The
Nobel Peace Prize for 1987 was awarded to this man who was President
of Costa Rica at the time, for "outstanding contributions to the
possible return of stability and peace to war-torn Central America".
The "Arias Plan" was launched at a meeting arranged by Arias for
the Presidents of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. His tireless
efforts for regional conciliation began when he became President
in 1986. |
