of the most important figures of the so-called "Generation of
98" in Spain, Baroja's work, prolific and intense extols the land
and people of the basque country in works such as: La Casa
de Aizgorri, Zalacaín el Aventurero, El Mayorazgo de Labraz, Las
inquietudes de Shanti Andías. It chronicles the daily lives
of the lower classes in Madrid in: La Busca, Mala Hierba, Aurora
Roja, Aventuras, Inventos y Mixtificaciones de Silvestre Paradox;
and analyzes in fictional works the political reality of the Spain
of his time: La ciudad de la niebla, El árbol de la ciencia,
Los últimos románticos, César o nada, El mundo es ansí, Camino
de perfección. He also wrote his autobiography.
