Author of The Art of the Castillian Language (1492) the first printed grammar of a vernacular language. He offered his book to Queen Isabella observing that it would serve as a tool of unity and communication for the peoples soon to become part of the Spanish crown. Thus Nebrija anticipated the importance that the Spanish language would acquire as the language of yet another continent
