U.S. Civil War. Born 1850, Spain. Seaman U.S. Navy, Accredited to Pennsylvania, G.O.No.45, Dec.31, 1864. Citation: Served as seaman on board the USS Saratoga during actions of that vessel on two occasions. Carrying out duties courageously during these actions, Ortega conducted himself gallantly through both periods. Promoted to Acting Master Male.
